In celebration of Extension and Outreach Week, the Webster County office of Iowa State University Extension will be holding an open house this weekend.

The open house will be from noon to 3 p.m. Saturday in the Younkers wing of the Crossroads Mall.

"We're doing this to make people aware of what all extension does," said Mary Jo Wagner, program coordinator at Webster County Extension. "We are so much more than just agriculture and 4-H."

There will be activities for kids, information on Extension programs and a chance to sign up for more information relating to Extension programs that focus on family, wellness, finances, gardening, horticulture and nutrition.

"There will be lots of hands-on things to do," said Wagner. "We'll have someone from 4-H, a food activity, master gardeners will be there and Ben Franklin will make an appearance to offer financial advice. All of our program specialists will be there with information."

Wagner said there will be plenty of programs to look forward to at the Webster County Extension office this year, and information will be available on most of those programs Saturday.

"We have the Tree Steward program coming up, wine making and viticulture programs, lots of ag programs, and health and literacy programs for K-12 youth," she said.

"Mostly, this week is a way to say thank you to our partners," said Wagner. "We are working hard to make the public aware of what we do."
