Law enforcement officers converged on the banks of the Des Moines River south of Fort Dodge Tuesday evening in pursuit of two individuals who apparently tried to elude them by going through the icy water.

The Fort Dodge Fire Department was called in case it was necessary to rescue the individuals from the river. No river rescue was needed, according to Fire Department Capt. Mitch Sells. He said both individuals were out of the water when firefighters arrived.

Two people were taken to Trinity Regional Medical Center.

The incident remained under investigation late Tuesday night, and details were unavailable.

Preliminary reports suggested that the individuals abandoned a vehicle near the Coleman District on the east side of the Des Moines River and crossed to the west side.

Fort Dodge police, Webster County sheriff's deputies, the Iowa State Patrol and paramedics from Trinity Regional Medical Center responded.
