GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Top-ranked (NCAA, Div. III) DePauw used a balanced effort to advance to the NCAA Div. III semifinals, defeating No. 17 Christopher Newport, 76-55.
DePauw is coached by former Fort Dodge Senior High all-stater Kris Huffman. They will face Williams College on Friday in Holland, Mich. at 6:30 p.m. for a national semifinal contest.
Savannah Trees and Ellie Pearson each scored 21 points to lead the way, as DePauw advanced to the third final four in school history.
"This was a day we hoped we'd get to," Huffman said. "I wanted this so badly for (the senior class) because they have tremendous leadership. They made an impact and I'm so happy they get to go and extend their season as long as it can go."
DePauw surpassed the school-record for single-season wins, scoring its 32nd victory of the year. The previous mark of 31 was set in 2007 by the national championship squad.
Huffman, who has amassed an overall record of 462-102 at the school, led the Dodgers to a state championship her senior season and was named Miss Basketball in Iowa. She continued her playing career at the University of Northern Iowa.
DePauw has won over 20 games each of the past 12 seasons, and has experienced just one losing record during her tenure, which came in 1993-94 - her first season on the job. They still finished tied for second in the Indiana Collegiate Athletic Conference, and have gone on to win at least a share of the league title 14 times.
The other national semifinal features Amherst taking on Wisconsin-Whitewater. The finals are set for March 16 at 6 p.m.
