By DANA BECKER - Messenger Sports Writer (sports@messengernews.net) , Messenger News

The Iowa Central football team announced the signing of 70 players, including several with area ties.

A total of 42 players have signed with the Tritons, while another 28 will walk-on later this summer.

Iowa Central went 6-6 last year, falling to Hutchinson (Kan.) in the Salt City Bowl.

"Our assistant coaches have done a wonderful job of identifying outstanding student-athletes who will come in and have an immediate impact on our football program," said ICCC head coach Kevin Twait. "We feel we have signed some great players who will represent our football program well in the classroom and on the field."

Players from around the Messenger-area that will be attending Iowa Central next year are Justin DaSilva, Tagan Dodson, Matt Streit, Josh Briese, Tyler Hansen, Jordan Rice and Cody Wellington.

Two years ago, DaSilva ran for 961 yards and 14 touchdowns for Laurens-Marathon. He suffered a torn ACL during a summer camp and missed this past season.
