Senior Night resulted in a 10th straight loss for the Fort Dodge girls basketball team here Friday.

Wrapping up their regular season, the Dodgers (3-17 overall, 0-6 CIC Northern Division) suffered a lopsided 77-40 setback to Ames at the FDSH gym.

"(The Little Cyclones) are a very good team when they shoot a high percentage from the outside, and I think they're clicking on all cylinders right now," Fort Dodge head coach Scott Timmerman said. "At the same time, I feel there are some things we can still take away and build off before heading into the postseason."

Lani Van Zyl, a 5-foot-7 sophomore point guard, sparked the Dodgers with 11 points and three steals, while classmate Mallory Kilian contributed 10 points. Junior Tiana Mericle added eight points and 11 rebounds.

"Mallory had one of her best games of the year both scoring and passing the ball," said Timmerman. "Lani also showed flashes, and Tiana is becoming very consistent. We just need to get five all five players on the same page now."

Despite committing only 16 turnovers, FDSH was held to just 13 made field goals. After trailing 43-9 with 3:53 left in the second quarter, the Dodgers managed to close out the opening half on a 16-3 spurt.
