Glenn A. Gudmonson, 83, of Fort Dodge, died Sunday, January 27, 2013, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
A service honoring Glenn's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 30, at St. Olaf Lutheran Church with the Rev. John Sersland officiating. Interment will be in the Blossom Hill Cemetery near Badger. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Paula J. Baber Hospice Home or to Almost Home Animal Shelter.
Glenn is survived by his wife Virginia; his children, Wayne (Liz) Gudmonson, Independence, Kansas; Glenda Gudmonson, Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Stacia and Michael Gudmonson and Cordell Collins; brother-in-law Daniel Lee; sister-in-law Dixie Gudmonson; along with nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings, Keith, Richard and Nina.
Glenn A. Gudmonson, son of Obert and Julia (Bjelland) Gudmonson, was born January 12, 1930, on a farm near Badger and he attended country schools. When Glenn was nine, his father died and Glenn began working for area farmers. On November 8, 1953, Glenn was united in marriage to Virginia Smith in Badger. Glenn worked for Davis Brothers Construction, Celotex and the City of Fort Dodge before establishing Gudmonson Service in 1964. During his retirement Glenn enjoyed making furniture for his children and grandchildren.
Glenn was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church. He enjoyed dancing the Polka and also caring for his garden, especially the tomato plants.
