HAMPTON - One final North Central Conference dual of the season awaits the St. Edmond wrestling team tonight.
The Gaels (14-6 overall, 2-5 NCC) will square off with Hampton-Dumont.
Junior varsity action begins at 6:30 p.m., followed by varsity matches around 7:30 p.m.
Coming off a sixth-place effort at the North Central Conference tournament on Saturday, SEHS first-year head coach Tanner Utley is hoping his squad can take another step forward in its two remaining postseason tune-ups.
"We need to keep our intensity up and control the pace for a full six minutes," Utley said. "I'd like to see us start breaking opponents in the third period and find a way to steal some wins."
Fifth-ranked (Class 1A) junior Kaden McClintock (113 pounds), No. 3 senior Teddie Harvey (145) and top-ranked junior Vinnie Harvey (220) all took home individual gold medals from the NCC meet for the Gaels. Defending state qualifiers McClintock (30-0 overall), Teddie Harvey (29-0) and Vinnie Harvey (30-0) each boast unbeaten records on the season.
106 - Ryan Szalat, so., (29-3); 113 - Kaden McClintock, jr., (30-0); 120 - Colten Lastine, sr., (16-10); 126 - Nick Johnson, fr., (25-6); 132 - Eddie Harvey, sr., (13-20); 138 - Matt Stumpf, sr., (21-13); 145 - Teddie Harvey, sr., (29-0); 152 - Parker Huebsch, jr., (7-7); 160 - Jimmy Averill, jr., (16-17); 170 - Kyle Lawler, jr., (0-0); 182 - Dillon Nelson, sr., (26-7); 195 - Jacob Salisbury, sr., (12-19); 220 - Vinnie Harvey, jr., (30-0); 285 - Open.
Sophomore Ryan Szalat (29-3), freshman Nick Johnson (25-6) and seniors Matt Stumpf (21-13) and Dillon Nelson (26-7) have all posted at least 21 wins on the year, as well, for St. Edmond.
"We saw Hampton a little bit at conference, and they have some solid wrestlers," said Utley. "As we kind of look forward to the sectional meet (Feb. 2 at Ogden), our guys need to be ready to wrestle (this evening)."
No. 10 (2A) senior Josh Bauer (170) headlines the attack for the Bulldogs (9-8, 2-5), who finished seventh at the NCC tournament.
Entering tonight's meet, the Gaels have prevailed in 12 of their last 13 duals.
A year ago, SEHS secured a 39-21 triumph over Hampton-Dumont.
