GOWRIE - Operations are back to normal for a railroad line that was closed Tuesday following a train derailment.

A Union Pacific train delivering grain from Emmetsburg to Eagle Pass, Texas, derailed just outside of Gowrie around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday.

The 21-car derailment caused damage to 650 feet of track, according to Mark Davis, Union Pacific spokesman.

Davis said Wednesday the line was repaired and reopened around 9:30 Tuesday night.

The derailment caused the grade crossing at U.S. Highway 175 to be closed for several hours while crews worked to get the remaining cars off the tracks.

The highway was reopened around 9:15 a.m. Tuesday.

While the line was being repaired, Davis said trains were rerouted to other tracks in the area.

Davis said the accident remains under investigation.
