Operation Christmas succeeds

To the editor:

Operation Christmas/ Church Women United helped 450 families (nearly 1,500 persons) to have a Merry Christmas this year. Hundreds of people helped in many ways.

Individuals gave money, new and used clothing and toys, household articles, bedding and Christmas trees and decorations. Our volunteers from churches and service clubs gave many hours of service. They made quilts, knitted caps, scarves and mittens, sorted and arranged the donations which came in and helped to fill the Christmas boxes which we gave to the families. These boxes were filled with food, family games and gifts and new toys and clothing for the children.

Many businesses and organizations gave money donations, food and toys and volunteer hours at our headquarters at Crossroads Mall and helped with deliveries to our home-bound recipients.

On Dec. 14, 2012, we heard "thank you" and "Merry Christmas" from our recipients. The Operation Christmas volunteers join with them to wish a Happy New Year to our generous and caring community.
