AMES - In its first outing of 2013, the Fort Dodge wrestling team competed at the Jack Mendenhall Invitational on Saturday.
The Dodgers tied with Cedar Rapids Jefferson for 10th-place, compiling 101 points. Fourth-ranked (Class 3A) Cedar Rapids Prairie (218), No. 9 (3A) West Des Moines Dowling (173.5) and Humboldt (159.5) paced the field. Webster City (136) finished sixth, while Clarion-Goldfield (118) was ninth.
"This was a tough tournament and a good measuring stick coming right out of the break," FDSH head coach Bobby Thompson said. "We have a tough schedule the remainder of the year, so we need to get back in the room now and try to improve each outing."
Third-ranked senior Duke Egli earned the lone individual title for the Dodgers at 170 pounds. Egli, who improved to 20-0 on the season, recorded three pins, including falls against West Des Moines Dowling's No. 9 Matt Collins and second-ranked Cameron Rathje of Cedar Rapids Prairie by times of 1:57 and 5:31, respectively.
"Duke pinned his way through the tournament and was just dominant," said Thompson. "He looked outstanding in a tough weight class."
