Elta M. Brown, 90, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Monday, December 17, 2012 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 21st at 2:00 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church with Rev. Richard Graves officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.
Survivors include her daughter, Wanda Mae (Roger) Buddin of Ollie, IA; sons, George Leroy Brown and Raymond Douglas Brown both of Fort Dodge; 3 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest E. and Viva V. (Haskell) Gray; husband, Chester Brown; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
Elta M. Gray was born on February 14, 1922 in Parowan, Utah. She grew up there and graduated from Seventh Day Adventist Union Academy in 1939. That year she moved to San Diego, CA; where she worked in an orphanage and an air plane factory. In 1942, she was united in marriage to Chester Brown and the couple made their home in San Diego. The couple moved to Fort Dodge in 1946, where she worked for Atomite and Truck Haven as a cook. They lived in Carroll, IA; from 1960 to 1966 where she was also a cook. They moved back to Fort Dodge in 1967 where the couple purchased Brownies Caf where she retired from full time duties in 1985. Elta continued to work part time at the Caf for several years. She was longtime member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church.
