HUMBOLDT - Leona Hintz Bartley, 103, of Humboldt, passed away December 8, 2012 at the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Livermore with viewing prior to the services. Interment will be in LuVerne Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home of Humboldt.
Leona Eldora Ramus, the daughter of William and Dora (Gifford) Ramus, was born April 23, 1909 at LuVerne, Iowa. She graduated from the LuVerne High School in 1926. Leona worked in the Post Office and the telephone office for many years.
She married Fred J. Hintz in 1934 and the couple made their home in Livermore where Fred had a cream route and gas route. Leona served as church organist for many years, was City Treasurer, served on the Library Board, was a Sunday School teacher, and Sunday School secretary. Mr. Hintz passed away in 1970.
After Leona retired, she spent time traveling between the East and West Coasts visiting her son and relatives.
In 1981, she attended the LuVerne centennial and met an old friend she dated in their high school days, Dr. Theodore Bartley. They renewed their friendship and were married in 1983. This happy marriage lasted twenty-one years. Ted and Leona moved to Springvale Independent Living in 2001. Ted died in 2004 and in 2006 her son, Gary passed away.
