Fort Dodge Business Systems, 1224 Central Ave., has a new owner.

Marco Inc., headquartered in St. Cloud, Minn., has purchased Mason City Business Systems, which also includes Cedar Rapids Business Systems Inc., Des Moines Business Systems Inc., Quad Cities Business Systems Inc. and Waterloo Business Systems Inc.

This acquisition is Marco's largest acquisition to date, according to a company press release, and will provide technical and network expertise to Business Systems' already established copier and printer services. Seventy-five Business System employees will join the Marco staff.

"All of the staff will be Marco employees right away," said Barry Opatz, Marco's vice president of marketing, who added that no immediate staffing changes are anticipated. However, he said, since Marco is "one of the largest technology services providers in the Upper Midwest, we typically bring good jobs to the markets we serve."

"We provide everything from voice systems to data networking to video conferencing," said Opatz. "We intend to bring additional services to customers in (the Fort Dodge) area.

The acquisition of Mason City Business Systems "supports our commitment to growth and our strategy of geographic expansion," Marco Chief Executive Officer Jeff Gau said, in a press release. "We look forward to continuing Mason City Business Systems' commitment to satisfying clients in the state of Iowa and providing opportunities for their valued employees. Our plan will be to expand our expertise and service offerings to provide even more innovative technology and expert service and support."
