HUMBOLDT - The St. Edmond girls basketball team continued to have Humboldt's number Tuesday night.

For the ninth straight time in the head-to-head series, the Gaels (5-1 overall, 5-1 NCC) prevailed over the Wildcats, securing a convincing 64-43 North Central Conference road triumph.

Despite a lackluster start, SEHS pulled away from the home squad with a furious 40-22 run following the break. With the victory, the Gaels moved to 25-1 in their last 26 league games.

"This was a good start to the week for us," St. Edmond head coach Scott Messerly said. "You always want to win that first game (on Tuesday), so you don't have to scratch your head and go back to the drawing board wondering what went wrong. I thought we had a pretty solid team effort (last evening), especially in the second half."

Alli Huss, a 5-foot-10 junior, propelled the Gael offensive charge once again, netting 17 points on 7-for-9 shooting.

Senior Hannah Lentsch and sophomore reserve Madeline Baldwin each added 13 points for St. Edmond, which actually trailed by six points (19-13) at the 3:43 mark of the second quarter before closing out the first half on an 11-2 burst.

"Our guards did a nice job of finding our post players for some easy looks inside," said Messerly. "Madeline really stuck out offensively, and Hannah was a force on both ends of the floor (Lentsch also grabbed 10 rebounds)."

St. Edmond shot an even 50 percent (27-for-54) from the field, while limiting Humboldt to just 33 percent (15 of 45). The Gaels committed only six of their 22 turnovers after the intermission.

"I thought the big difference was our (defensive) pressure really slowed Humboldt down as the game went on," Messerly said. "We didn't have so many wasted (offensive) trips in the second half, either, which was another turning point."

Erica Lane, a senior, supplied a bright spot for the Wildcats (2-4, 1-4) with 15 points and seven boards. Junior Lauren Friesth chipped in seven points.

St. Edmond visits Clear Lake (4-1, 4-1) on Friday. Humboldt welcomes Clarion-Goldfield (1-6, 1-5) that same evening.
