IOWA FALLS - The St. Edmond wrestling team will return to dual action this evening, taking on North Central Conference foes Iowa Falls-Alden and Webster City.
The Gaels will meet Iowa Falls-Alden at 6 p.m. and will then face Webster City at approximately 7 p.m.
Over the weekend, the Gaels (0-1 overall, 0-1 in NCC) picked up a team title at the Doug Wood Cougar Invitational in Manson. St. Edmond crowned five champions in Ryan Szalat, sixth-ranked (113 pounds) Kaden McClintock, Nick Johnson, No. 5 (152) Teddie Harvey and fifth-rated (220) Vinnie Harvey.
The Gaels did drop their season opening dual last Thursday, falling to Clear Lake.
"We improved a lot from Thursday to Saturday (last week),'' said St. Edmond head coach Tanner Utley. "Webster City has a very good program and Iowa Falls-Alden is improving.''
Dillon Nelson and Jacob Salisbury each added second place finishes at the invite, while Matt Stumpf and Parker Huebsch were third.
Teddie Harvey now has 104 career victories, while McClintock has 81 and Vinnie Harvey is a win shy of reaching 80.
"We have a lot of inexpierenced kids, so mat time is very important to them,'' Utley said. "Some of our younger guys are starting to get the feel of it.
"We just have to keep taking strides forward. If tehre is a few bumps on the road, that's fine with me.''
Webster City (Class 3A) enters with two ranked wrestlers. Junior Connor Larson is eighth at 170 and classmate Dylan Fielder is second at 182 pounds.
Iowa Falls-Alden, a 2A school, has no ranked wrestlers. They are 5-3 in duals, including a loss to Clarion-Goldfield.
