David Altemeier, a Fort Dodge native, bass player and instructor in Des Moines, was presented with a Special Recognition Award by the Greater Des Moines Community Jazz Center in a ceremony on Oct. 28 in Altoona.

The CJC is an organization dedicated to helping young musicians build their jazz skills on a supportive and non-competitive environment. The CJC hosts monthly jam sessions in which Altemeier has been a staple for three years. Every year, the CJC inducts members into their Hall of Fame as well as presents Special Recognition Awards to musicians, jazz educators and music supporters across central Iowa.

Altemeier received the Special Recogition Award for his active role as a bass player in a variety of ensembles across Iowa as well as his position as a private instructor of bass and guitar at Rieman Music and Ye Old Guitar Shop in Des Moines.
