Virginia Marie (Manchester) Godwin, a life-long resident of Webster County, died Saturday, November 10, 2012 at Tompkins Memorial Health Center.
Born May 3, 1916, she remained active until just a few weeks before her death. She is survived by her son Don and daughter-in-law, Donna Godwin, of Duncombe; son Jerry Godwin of Dallas, Texas, daughter Kay Anthony of Davenport; six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. Virginia was married to Richard on July 4, 1934, and they farmed together until his death in 1975. Virginia had been a resident of Friendship Haven since leaving her farm south of Fort Dodge in 1985. She worked as a volunteer at the Tompkins Health Center for 34 years and was named 1986 Activity Volunteer of the year by the National Association of Activity Professionals. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Fort Dodge, and of the Order of Eastern Star.
Her life and ministry to so many in the area will be celebrated in a service of remembrance at the Celebration Center of Friendship Haven at 1:00 pm, on Friday, November 23. A private interment is planned for earlier in the day. The family suggests memorials to Trinity Hospice Care, 802 Kenyon Road, Fort Dodge, 50501.
