To the editor:
The Fort Dodge Swim Club was pleased to host the Mutual of Omaha Breakout Olympic Swim Clinic and banquet on Nov. 2-3 featuring Olympic swimmers Ian Crocker, and Jimmy Feigen, as well as Dagny Knutson, a professional swimmer and World Championship gold and silver medalist. Along with sharing their talents, they shared a motivational message of being able to achieve greatness through determination and setting goals. Their stories of growing up in small communities with many challenges was truly inspirational. With the help of their parents and coaches they were able to take incremental steps that led to reaching Olympic dreams. Dedication, handwork, and making the right decisions were a common thread woven through each ones path to excellence.
We can't begin to thank our sponsors, businesses, the schools, and individuals enough for their generous support that enabled us to bring this unique event to Fort Dodge. And, of course, a big "thank you" to the parents and young athletes that attended and participated in the event. It is because of you, our club continues to support competitive swimming in Fort Dodge and surrounding areas. Lastly, we would like to thank The Messenger for its excellent coverage of this wonderful activity for our youths.
