Raymond J. Barber, 88, of Fort Dodge, died Thursday, November 8, 2012 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.
The service honoring Raymond's life will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, November 12, at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by V.F.W. Post No. 1856. The visitation is Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home.
Raymond is survived by his children, Joy Traster, Fort Dodge; Diane Moberg, Florida; and Connie Coronado, Fort Dodge; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice, his sons, Raymond and Dave, one brother and two sisters.
Raymond Jerome Barber, the son of Jerome and Gladys (Goodrich) Barber, was born September 4, 1924 in Lehigh. He attended Border Plains School and graduated from Lehigh High School in 1942, where he was a member of the state qualifying baseball team. In 1943 Raymond was united in marriage to Bernice Gunderson in Fort Dodge. Raymond served in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge he returned to the area where he worked for the railroad and for Maytag. Raymond then was employed with National Gypsum Company for 46 years and was proud of his perfect safety record. Raymond also farmed on his land near Lehigh.
Ray loved to play and watch baseball and he was a devoted Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed country music and loved to sing and play his guitar.
