MANNING - Third-ranked Emmetsburg put on an offensive clinic Friday night, pounding No. 4 IKM-Manning by 55-7 count in Class 1A quarterfinal playoff action.
The District 1 champion E-Hawks (11-1 overall) racked up 489 yards of total offense, including 419 on the ground.
Senior Andrew Wellik delivered 284 yards rushing and five touchdowns on 21 carries - all coming in the first half. Wellik, who leads the state with 2,653 yards on the ground this year, found paydirt from 56 yards out on the first play from scrimmage and scored three times in the first 13 minutes.
Wellik also reached the endzone from 34, 21, 9 and 2 yards out, upping his season's touchdown mark to 37.
Nick Schany contributed an 18-yard scoring jaunt as well for the E-Hawks, while Jake Jackson hooked up with Cody Henderson on a 50-yard endzone strike.
Greg Wesley added the other Emmetsburg touchdown on a 65-yard fumble return.
The E-Hawks, who are making their state-record 37th all-time playoff appearance and own nine state titles from three different classes, will now face No. 8 Council Bluffs St. Albert (11-1) in the 1A semifinals next Saturday at 1:06 p.m. in the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls. St. Albert was a state runner-up last fall.
Saturday's other 1A semifinal will feature a pair of unbeatens in No. 2 Dike-New Hartford (12-0) against top-ranked and two-time defending 2A state champion Iowa City Regina (12-0).
