To the editor:
A blustery September morning in Downtown Fort Dodge marked the beginning of fall and the end of Market on Central. Customers browsing stalls of bright orange pumpkins and summer vegetables in the fall chill. The crowd would not be dissuaded from their shopping and enjoyment of the activities downtown. The musical "Chicago" could be heard on the corner and kids climbing through the Fire Department's smoke truck adding to the festivities.
Visitors rushed to get fresh produce, local wine, handmade pottery, artwork, photography, honey, and meats before the season ended. It would be another eight months before Market on Central enveloped downtown once again.
Thank you for making the 2012 Market a memorable success.
To the city of Fort Dodge, GFDGA, Downtown and local businesses that have encouraged Market thru sponsorship and support we thank you. SSMID realized the Committee's vision of Downtown revitalization and economic development of the many small businesses that are a part of Market and the invaluable support of the Messenger and Three Eagles Communications that carries the Market's message throughout the community.
Thank you for donated time by many to make Market a destination. The Fort Dodge Fire Department and Fort Dodge Police Department, it is our honor to have you as a part of Market. The 9/11 ceremony by the Fire Department was a highlight of the season. We thank you sincerely for your service and your presence at Market.
Thank you to our Market Ambassadors welcoming visitors, handing out maps, providing assistance, and counting our many customers each weekend. This year's Ambassadors were: It Gets Better - FD; Fort Dodge Young Professionals; FD Junior Women's Club; Webster County Farm Bureau; Oktoberfest; and Girl Scouts. Each group volunteered their time and we thank you.
The local entrepreneurs and courageous small businesses we call vendors that show up each Market morning receive a special thank you. Heat, rain, wind, and the cold did not stop you. It is the diversity of goods, quality products, and hard work that is the foundation of this venture and its success. Thank you for your entrepreneurial spirit, ingenuity, and continued interest in Downtown Fort Dodge and the Market.
Thank you to the many visitors that are Market customers. We strive to provide products you want, quality you demand, an enjoyable experience, and fun to share each Saturday.
Market on Central will return in June of 2013.
Until then, thank you all for another successful season.
