The Fort Dodge Police Department has determined the phone number of a company that was making unsolicited phone calls, alleging to be from the local police and offering free home security systems.
On Friday, at least two community members had received calls. No one from the Fort Dodge Police Department calls to make offers to sell residents any services, said Fort Dodge Police Chief Tim Carmody.
Carmody had asked that anyone who had information about the calls contact the Fort Dodge Police, and as a result, a local resident who was able to record the call from the organization on their answering machine provided that information to the police.
According to a press release, the recording indicated that, "your local police department recommends that you protect your home. If you allow us to place a small sign in your yard, we will install a new security system at absolutely no cost to you whatsoever. There is no cost for the system or installation whatsoever. To hear more press 1 now, to be added to our do not call list, press 9."
It appears that these are robo-calls that are auto-generated, Carmody said.
"It appears that the phone number these calls are coming from is (306) 529-6956. We have attempted to contact a representative from the organization, but have not been reach a live person yet," he said.
"We would like to thank the community again for assisting us in identifying the organization and that they don't need to forward anymore information to our department," Carmody said. "We do want to again caution citizens to carefully evaluate any solicitation before signing up for a service."
