To the editor:
I have known and worked with Helen Miller for 12 years or more. She began a program to work with youths in the Fort Dodge community exposing them to art back in 2000. Children from Youth Shelter Care, Rabiner Treatment Center, Fort Dodge Housing Agency, Upper Des Moines Opportunity, etc. were exposed to art and culture through her efforts. She went on to create the annual Artful Dodger Project in 2002. The 11th project will be launched this month and continues to involve artists in creating works which are auctioned to benefit local organizations such as Fort Dodge American Cancer Society, Iowa Central Community College, Domestic/Sexual Assault Outreach Center, Friendship Center, Blanden Memorial Art Museum, city of Fort Dodge, Alzheimer's Association of Fort Dodge, etc.
Helen's commitment to this community and its artists is unique and much appreciated. The art and nonprofit communities have benefited from her work over the years. Likewise, Webster County has benefited from her presence in the Iowa House representing us.
Let's keep her there by voting for her on Nov. 6.
