To the Messenger:
We'd like to thank The Messenger for the kind story on Oct. 9, about our father, Jeff Burke. Jeff is a 30-year member of the Barnum Fire Department and was seriously injured on Oct. 2. He was responding to a medical call on when a fire truck slipped out of gear, pinning him between an ambulance and a fire truck. Since that time, Dad has been in Des Moines at Iowa Methodist Medical Center recovering from his injuries.
We would also like to thank the community for your prayers and words of encouragement. We'd especially like to thank Pam Habhab for her kind words in her letter to the editor on Oct. 18, and most importantly that both Dad and Ms. Habhab are on the road to recovery. We truly believe it was God's plan for these two angels to meet. While Ms. Habhab's life was saved by our dad's actions, Dad credits Ms. Habhab with saving his life as well.
First Responders from the area are organizing a benefit for Jeff this Saturday night from 4 to 8 p.m. at the St. Mathews Church in Clare. There will be a dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. and an action will follow across the street at the Clare Community Center. The proceeds from this event will help to defray some of the expenses associated from this accident.
Please come and show your support.
