LUVERNE Funeral service for Wilma J. Hefty, 80, will be held on Wednesday at 1:30 PM at the United Methodist Church in LuVerne with Pastor Tim Riekhoff-Farris officiating. Burial will be in LuVerne Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 PM on Tuesday at Oakcrest Funeral Services of LuVerne and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.

Wilma Jean (Grethen) Hefty, daughter of Joseph and Maudie (Reese) Grethen, was born January 25, 1932, in West Bend. She graduated from Cylinder High School and worked as the assistant city clerk in Emmetsburg. Wilma met John "Bud" Hefty at a square dance. They were married June 6th, 1954 in Emmetsburg and together they had 7 children. They farmed and raised their children near LuVerne.

Wilma also served as the caretaker of the LuVerne Cemetery for 20 years. She and Bud retired from farming in 1997, and moved into LuVerne. She cared for her husband for many years at home until she was no longer able. In 2009, she moved to Mason City to be close to Bud when he became a resident of the I.O.O.F Home.

She spent her life putting needs of others before her own. She delighted in baking and making sure everyone was well fed. Wilma showed strength and love though everything and everyone she touched.

She enjoyed cross stitch, sewing, reading, and baking. As an active member of the LuVerne United Methodist Church, Wilma was involved with UMW, women's circle, youth group, Sunday School. Wilma J. Hefty died Friday, October 19, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester, MN, at the age of 80.

Those left to cherish hermemory are: daughters Debbie Campbell of West Des Moines, Glendaand husband Dale Hubergof New Hartford, Pamand husband Curt Stilleof Swaledale, Shelly and husband BrianGastof Story City, Jill and husband Roger Waner of Mason City, and Tina and husband MattBleakneyof Manly; and a daughter-in-law, Deb Jones of Ft. Dodge; as well as 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband John "Bud" Hefty on March 17, 2012;son, John in 2010; four sisters, Helen Smith, Doris Nock, June Wegener, and one in infancy; and brothers, Robert, Orville, and Richard Grethen. (515) 882-3322
