To the editor:
On Oct.11, Pope Benedict XVI celebrated a special Mass in Rome, inaugurating the Year of Faith. This 13-month celebration marks 50 years since the opening of the Second Vatican Council, and is designed to encourage a rediscovery of the truths of the Christian faith and a renewed relationship with Christ our Savior. What a blessing this year will be for the growth of our faith.
To those Catholics who have drifted away from the active practice of the faith, know that the door is wide open for your return. Understanding the faith with a renewed heart and allowing oneself to enjoy again the support of the Christian community through sacramental worship are priceless gifts that are yours for the taking.
To those who are seeking greater happiness, a direction for their life, or answers to life's deepest questions, like the meaning of suffering and if there is life after death, we welcome you to join our Catholic community in Holy Trinity Parish. The adventure of knowing God intimately and letting his divine grace support you along your journey is truly within your reach.
While Christianity is often portrayed as restricting, God's commands impose nothing us. Rather, they propose everything, namely a life of freedom in His light and love.
The Year of Faith has been launched, and in the midst of the New Evangelization of our culture, may the joys of rediscovering a life in Christ be yours now and always.
