Fort Dodge head boys swim coach Joel Greathouse was recently selected as the Iowa High School Swimming Coaches Association and the Iowa High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) nominee for the 2011-12 National Federation of State High School Association's (NFHS) Coaches Association Iowa Boys' Swimming Coach of the Year.

The recognition honors coaches for significant achievement in their sport throughout their career. Nominees for boys sports in Iowa are selected by each sport's respective state coaches association and approved by the IHSAA.

"I was very surprised when I got an e-mail about it," Greathouse said. "It's a nice honor. I've put in a lot of years and made some good relationships with other coaches. People have seen the progress we've made with our program, which is great."

Greathouse owns an overall record of 71-101-2 during his 15 year career. He has twice been named conference Coach of the Year and district Coach of the Year three times. Greathouse also served six years on the IHSAA's boys swimming advisory council and has been a member of the Iowa High School Swim Coaches Association for 15 years.
