Mary Jean Hottman, 82, of Fort Dodge, passed away Thursday, October 11, 2012 at Kindred Hospital in Clear Lake, Texas. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Epworth United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.
Mary Jean Peterson was born in Harcourt, Iowa on August 9, 1930 to Oliver and Maurine (Carlson) Peterson. She graduated from Harcourt High School in 1948 and went on to Tobin Business College. On September 3, 1955, Mary Jean married M.L. "Bob" Hottman in Harcourt. After their marriage the couple made Fort Dodge their home. Mary Jean worked as a bookkeeper for Webster County for 32 years retiring in 1992 and also served as the Epworth United Methodist Church organist for 40 years, her husband passed away on August 10, 2010. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, United Methodist Women, and is a Past President of United Methodist Women. She was also a member of T.T.T. Mary Jean loved to read, knit, and watch birds.
Mary Jean is survived by her three children; children David (Connie) Hottman of Denver, CO, Douglas (Shirley) Hottman of Avon, IN and Barbara Hottman of League City, TX; seven grandchildren, Jason, Lauren, Alyson, Jamison, Christopher, Kaylee , and Emily and one great grandson, Mason; a step-sister, Nancy (Delwyn) Johnson of Albert City, IA, step- nephew, Scott and a step-niece, Deb. Mary Jean is preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents Oliver and Maurine and her step father, Ray Elg.
