A former correctional officer at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility is accused of providing an inmate with items and performing a sexual act on him.
Rhiannon D. Quintana, 35, of Fort Dodge, has been charged with providing electronic contraband, a felony, and sexual misconduct with an offender.
The alleged incidents happened on July 15.
Quintana, according to the criminal complaint filed with the Webster County attorney's office, "provided electronic contraband to an inmate who was in the custody of the Department of Corrections."
The Iowa Code defines electronic contraband as "a mobile telephone or other hand-held electronic communication device." The specific item that was allegedly given to the inmate is not identified in the complaint.
Quintana is also accused of performing an unspecifed sexual act on the same inmate.
"The defendant was responsible for the direct supervision of inmates at the time the act took place," the complaint states.
The inmate involved was not named in the court documents.
Quintana made her initial appearance in Webster County Magistrate Court Thursday morning.
Magistrate William Thatcher released Quintana on her own recognizance. Her preliminary hearing is set for Oct. 26.
She no longer works at the prison, she said.
