Algona girls win team title

ALGONA - The Algona girls dethroned Humboldt atop the North Central Conference cross country meet standings here Tuesday.

The Bulldogs cruised to the team title, finishing 26 points ahead of runner-up Webster City thanks to three Top-10 individuals.

Eagle Grove junior Tiffany Christensen defended her crown with a time of 14:57.25. Algona's Tangy Wiseman (15:03.45) was the runner-up, followed by area runners Sam Larson of Humboldt (15:09.04), Erin Reedy of Bishop Garrigan (15:20.11), Morgan Moline of Webster City (15:34.47) and Bulldog Paige Yi (15:56.44).

Algona's Carissa Pityer (16:06.96) crossed the tape ninth to help aid the championship run.

The No. 12 (Class 1A) Golden Bears were fourth. No. 3 (1A) Eagle Grove placed sixth.

St. Edmond was ninth. The Gaels were paced by Mary Eide's 15th-place effort (15:47.00).

''Mary did well. She was 22nd last year, so she's climbing the ladder,'' Gael head coach Mike Szalat said. ''Kara Salanias did a nice job. Madi Reel and Mary-Claire Li had personal-bests.

''Everyone was under 18:30, which was encouraging to see.''

Reel (32nd, 17:31.18) followed Eide in the St. Edmond lineup. Salinas (38th, 17:50.66) was next.
