Head coach Rosie Ellendson continued to see encouraging signs from her Fort Dodge girls swim team Thursday night.

Despite falling to both Spencer (73-28) and Carroll (69-32) in a home double dual meet, the Dodgers still managed six top three overall finishes.

"I saw some real positives in a few things (last evening)," Ellendson said. "Even though we lost, you have to be happy anytime you can get personal bests. We just need to keep working hard at practice, always give 110 percent and try to improve on our technique."

Seniors Angie Ellendson (200 freestyle, 2:13.76) and Nicole Cook (1M diving, 138.15 points) each captured individual gold for Fort Dodge, while Amanda Schaffer (1M diving, 104.25) settled for a runner-up performance.

"Angie had her best 200 freestyle time in about two years, so I was glad to see her time going back down," said Rosie Ellendson. "(Swim official) Gary Winkler also told me how much improvement he's noticed from Nicole in her diving since last year, which was very exciting to hear. Amanda had her career high point in diving, too."

In addition, the Dodgers received third-place efforts from Ellendson (100 butterfly, 1:09.76), Lauren Underwood (100 breaststroke, 1:19.50) and the 200 medley relay quartet of Elli Russell, Shay Saathoff, Ellendson and Alyssa Nehring, which clocked a 2:06.66.

"Our 200 medley had never broke 2:07 before (Thursday), and it was nice for them to be able to finally do that," Rosie Ellendson said. "Lauren had a good night for us in the 100 breaststroke as well."

Spencer's Taylor Sieperda took home top individual honors in the 50 freestyle (24.79) and 100 backstroke (59.51), while also participating on the victorious 200 medley (1:58.50) and 200 freestyle (1:44.79) relay foursomes. The Tigers downed Carroll by a 54-40 count in Thursday's other dual.

Next action for Fort Dodge is Tuesday when they welcome Mason City for Senior/Parents Night. Start time is set for 5:30 p.m.
