The Fort Dodge boys cross country team knows exactly what they need to accomplish over these next few weeks if they hope to compete at Lakeside Golf Course again this year.
Thursday evening the Dodgers faced off with three ranked teams - and four districts foes - at the Fort Dodge Invitational.
Later this month, the best runners in Iowa will return to Fort Dodge for the state meet.

Fort Dodge will compete against the Tigers, Warriors, Indians and Urbandale at a district meet in Waukee on Oct. 18.
"We didn't have the type of finish I was hoping for, but it was hard competing without our No. 2 runner," FDSH head coach Tim Hanson said. "We know to qualify for state we will need to knock off one of those three teams, and I think we can do it if we can prepare ourselves mentally and physically over these next couple of weeks."
Alex Jackson paced the Dodgers, finishing 19th in 16:27. Nic Ganzeveld was 49th (17:11), as Fort Dodge ran without Thomas Thompson.
"Hopefully, we will have Thomas back and running by districts," Hanson said. "I thought Alex did a real nice job (Thursday).
"We wanted him to stick with the top-three from Waukee, and he did that for most of the race."
The Dodgers run next on Thursday in Marshalltown at the CIML Invitational.
Webster City, which placed 12th overall, received a 48th-place performance from Steven Smith in 17:11. Jacob Clabaugh was 57th (17:22) and Ethan Glenn was 58th (17:23).
