Loretta Ida Kastendieck (Gross), 87, of Fort Dodge, passed away on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home. The memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the St. Paul Section at North Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted with Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.
Loretta was born on October 26th, 1924 in Manson, Iowa to Adolf and Lena (Zeckser) Gross. She attended schools in Barnum and Pocahontas, graduating from Fort Dodge High School in 1942. On January 7th, 1943, she married August (Augie) Kastendieck at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge observing their 69th anniversary on January 7th, 2012. She was employed as a secretary in the offices of Dr. D.C. Carver, Law office of J.B. Cross, Dodgen Industries, Trinity Regional Medical Center and Community Health Care in Davenport, IA before retiring in 1984.
Loretta and her husband resided in Fort Dodge until moving to Davenport and later to Manson before returning to Fort Dodge in 1995. They spent many winters in Arizona, Georgia and Florida. She was active as a volunteer at St. Paul Mission House, LWML, formerly teaching Bible School, Sunday school and active in St. Paul PTA. She and her husband were volunteer counselors at Trinity for the Iowa Insurance Dept. in the SHIIP program, receiving awards for Volunteerism from Gov. Vilsack in 1999.
Loretta is survived by her husband Augie; sons Steven (Jackie) Kastendieck of Maple Grove, MN, Randall (Elaine) Kastendieck of Richmond, VA; 4 grandchildren Adam, Ryan and Taylor Kastendieck and Katrina Peterson. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Ed, Art, Elmer, Bob, Dale and Donald Gross and her sisters Leona Knisley and Marie O'Connor.
