OTHO - Carol J. Newburn, 62, of Otho, died Monday, September 17, 2012 at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
The service honoring Carol's life will be 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 21 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Dennis Shepherd officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Otho United Methodist Church.
Carol is survived by her husband Ronald; her son Ryan (Jen) Newburn, Otho; grandchildren, Heath and Rhianna; and her brothers, Wayne (Deb) Krug, Otho; Randy Krug, Rockwell City; and Dale (Vicki) Krug, Fort Dodge; along with many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews as well as many other beloved family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
Carol Jean Krug, the daughter of Harold and Colleen (Lutz) Krug, was born July 16, 1950 in Fort Dodge. Carol was reared and educated in Fort Dodge and graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1969. On June 22, 1973, Carol was united in marriage to Ronald Newburn at the Otho United Methodist Church. Carol was employed with Hawkeye Awning, Eddie's Grocery, Uniform World, L & D Laundry and Misty Harbor, from where she retired. Carol was a seamstress and knew everything there was to know about how to operate a sewing machine, especially how quickly it would work.
Carol was a member of Otho United Methodist Church. She enjoyed raising flowers in her garden, shopping at Goodwill and at garage sales and solving Sudoku puzzles. She liked to cook and try new recipes for her family. Carol was known for her selflessness and always put others first in her life, especially her family. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren.
