Mike graduated from Kuemper Catholic High School in 1971 and attended Iowa State University while farming spring and fall. He toured Europe for three months in 1974 on a Triumph purchased in London. Mike was an avid Iowa State fan and enjoyed working, family time at the lake and men's bridge club.
