Irene F. Bowman, 95, of Fort Dodge, died September 12, 2012 at the Fort Dodge Villa Care Center.
A service honoring Irene's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 15 at St. Paul Lutheran Church with the Rev Allen Henderson officiating. Interment will be in North Lawn Cemetery. The visitation is Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the discretion of the family.
Irene is survived by her daughters, Linda (Rich) Schertz and Deb (Dave) Diemer, all of Fort Dodge; grandchildren Dianne (Art) Sporrer, Jennifer Schertz, Christa (James) Boileau and C. Mike Pratt; five great-grandchildren; and her sister Myrtle Meyer of Dubuque. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two brothers and four sisters.

Irene Frieda Gritti, the daughter of Dominic and Martha Gritti, was born June 16, 1917 in Dubuque, Iowa. She attended Lutheran schools in Dubuque and graduated from Dubuque Senior High School. Irene worked in Dubuque until moving to Fort Dodge where she worked at Fort Dodge Labs. On March 10, 1946, Irene was united in marriage to Mervin Bowman in Fort Dodge. Irene served as personnel director for the U.S. Post Office in Fort Dodge until her retirement.
Irene was a longtime member of St. Paul Lutheran Church where she was involved in Bible classes. She was a past board member of the St. Paul Lutheran School Board and N.A.R.F. Irene was a member of the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She enjoyed reading, watching sports on television and working in her flower garden. Irene especially enjoyed attending the sporting events of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
