Joyce Swanson, 74, of Buckeye, AZ and formerly of the Fort Dodge area passed away Friday, September 7, 2012 at Banner Estrella Medical Center in Phoenix, AZ.
Funeral service will be 3:00 PM Sunday, September 16, 2012 at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home in Fort Dodge, with Bruce Walrod officiating. Private family burial will be in Greenfield Township Cemetery, Knierim. Friends may call after 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Sunday at the funeral home.
Joyce is survived by her husband, Chuck; son, Craig and wife Lynn of Goodyear, AZ; daughters Jennifer (Jenna) Chin of Highlands Ranch, CO and Rachel Howard of Oakland, CA; grandchildren, Cassie and Connor Swanson, Devon and Kai Chin; brothers, Roger Hartzler of Fort Dodge and Duane Hartzler of Ogden; and sisters, Mary Hicks and Geri McGrevey both of Phoenix, AZ.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Margaret (Julius) Hartzler; brother, Don Hartzler; and infant sister, Gwendolyn.
Joyce Hartzler was born March 1, 1938 in Somers. Joyce was raised and educated in Somers; graduating from Somers High School in 1956. She then furthered her education at Tobin Business School. She worked for Peters Law Firm for a number of years. On June 1, 1963 Joyce was united in marriage to Chuck Swanson in Rockwell City. The couple established their home and farmed near Dayton. Joyce worked for Johnson Law Firm in Fort Dodge. In 1985 they relocated to Colorado. There, Joyce worked as an executive assistant for Sullivan Hayes and Colorado Restaurant Management until retiring in 2000. In 2006 Chuck retired and the couple moved to Buckeye, AZ.
Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
