To the editor:
On behalf of the local youth empowerment project It Gets Better-FD, we would like to thank an extraordinary youth for his selfless acts of giving without receiving.
On an oddly cool morning, the It Gets Better-FD team was allowed to go pick corn to sell to raise money for the continuation of awareness of empowering youth, anti-bullying and to promote kindness and consideration in the classroom, hallways and community.
Austin Rosenboom, of Pomeroy, gave up a truck load of sweet corn for us to sell for our "Growing Kindness to Produce Compassionate Youth" awareness day.
Special thanks to Dr. Emile Li and the doctors and staff of Orthopedics Sports Medicine for the use of their parking lot.
Side by side, the IGBFD team, Austin along with his grandparents, Steve and Rachael Bell picked buckets and buckets of corn until the truck was full. This was a wonderful first time experience picking corn for many of us who had never done it before.
Austin graciously gave up $200 he could have made for himself. The integrity of this young man is an example of what "getting better" is all about. To give the kids of this community and surrounding communities the opportunity to prove themselves and show that they do have good intentions and motives to help others and causes. That will bring them up to be caring, responsible people of character we can all be proud of. This is the reason It Gets Better-FD has surfaced. To rid the term "dirty dodge" mentality of our town and begin in action of community pride.
Thank you to our newest ambassador, Austin Rosenboom. You are an awesome, selfless, amazing young man. We can't wait to see all the good that will come out in you in the future.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
