To the editor:
Fort Dodge is very fortunate to have a group of such dedicated volunteers with the PICA - Pride in Community Appearance - group. They work diligently to make so many areas of our community look so beautiful with fresh landscaping, plants, shrubs, flowers and woodchips, while removing weeds, graffiti, painting, etc.
In July, with temperatures in the mid-90s, I watched a large group of PICA volunteers digging the dried up ground and weeds in the area between Citizens Central and Central Apartments on Central Avenue. I go to that area often, and what a welcomed beautification of that area. Drive through the alley there and see another sight in Fort Dodge that PICA made beautiful, as they have in parks, the City Square, cemeteries, senior high, many other schools, playgrounds and areas all over town.
Thank you, PICA, and also thanks to the SSMID downtown area for the nice planters on Central Avenue and the side streets. Everything looks great, and gives me even more reasons to be proud to live in Fort Dodge.
