Rev. Richard A. Kielbasa, 79, of Fort Dodge, IA passed away on Sunday, September 2, 2012 at the Marian Home.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, September 6th at 1:30 p.m. at Corpus Christi Church with Most Rev. R. Walker Nickless, Bishop of Sioux City, officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Corpus Christi Church with a Rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a Vigil service at 7:00 p.m. all at the church. The Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home is serving the family.
A Mass will also take place at the Shrine of St. Stanislaus Church in Parma, Ohio, with burial to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Parma.
Survivors include his sisters, Irene (Ted) Grabowski and Jean Virovec both of Brooklyn, OH; brothers, Jim Kaye of Garfield Heights, OH; Hank (Lois) Kiel of Maple Heights, OH; Casey Kiel of Cleveland, OH; and 11 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Stanley and Mary (Panek) Kielbasa, and his brother, Ted Kaye; sister-in-laws, Natalie Kaye, Betty Kaye, and Josephine Kiel; brother-in-law, Nick Virovec.
Richard Anthony Kielbasa was born on April 14, 1933 in Cleveland, OH. He attended schools there and graduated from St. Stanislaus in 1951. Richard then received his B.A. Degree in Philosophy from Loras College in Dubuque, IA. He then began his Theology courses at Mt. St. Bernard Seminary in Dubuque, IA; graduating in 1959. On May 23rd 1959, Rev. Richard A. Kielbasa was ordained a priest at St. John's Cathedral in Cleveland, OH with Bishop Floyd Begin as Ordaining Prelate. Fr. Kielbasa's assignments began at Holy Rosary Church in Fort Dodge, IA where he was the assistant from 1959 to 1965. From 1965 to 1969, Fr. Kielbasa served as the assistant at St. Joseph's Church in Sioux City, IA. He then served as Pastor at St. Joseph's Parish in Stubble and Maurice, IA from 1966 to 1969. From 1969 to 1970 he was the Pastor at Christ the King in Dayton, IA and Immaculate Conception Parish in Lehigh, IA. Fr. served as Pastor of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish in Moorland, IA from 1970 to 1979. From 1979 to 1986 he served Holy Rosary Parish in Fort Dodge, IA. From 1986 to 1991 Fr. Kielbasa was at St. Matthew's Church in Clare, IA and St. Joseph's Church in Barnum, IA. He was also on the St. Edmond High School faculty from 1970 to 1991. From 1991 to 1997 he served the Parishes of Holy Family in Lidderdale, IA and St. Elizabeth Seton in Glidden, IA. Fr. Richard was the Pastor at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Rockwell City, IA from 1997 to 2003; also serving as the Chaplain at the Men's Reformatory until his retirement in 2003.
