Humboldt rips SCC
HUMBOLDT - Humboldt bounced back with an impressive 45-6 victory over eighth-ranked (2A) South Central Calhoun on Friday night.
The Wildcats (1-1 overall) had 443 yards of total offense, with 331 yards coming on the ground.

Brady Ross was the catalyst for the Wildcats, amassing 154 yards on 27 carries and four scores. He reached the end zone from 20 yards, seven and a pair of one-yard scores.
Nikko Wheeler had 77 yards on seven carries and scored on a one-yard score.
Jaxon Heinz had a 9-yard score and Ryan Lee had a seven-yard score.
Ben Jacobson was 6-for-8 passing for 112 yards.
On defense, Ross had nine tackles and Lee had five tackles.
South Central Calhoun's (1-1) lone score came on a 20-yard Jake Petzenhauser scoring strike to Nathan Christensen.
Tanner Toms had 11 tackles and Cody Schoop had 10 tackles.
MNW bounces back in a big way
MANSON - After getting shut out last week, Manson Northwest Webster bounced back with a 27-3 victory over Prairie Valley on Friday.
Sophomore Alex Bush had a big night for the Cougars (1-1 overall), throwing for 216 yards on 12 of 21 passing and three touchdowns.
Bush also kicked a 24-yard field goal.
Payton Rice caught a 20-yard touchdown pass. Rice also had a 35-yard interception return for a score.
Hudson Spedding caught a seven-yard catch and Caleb Wubben had a 24-yard receiving catch. The Cougars had 317 yards of total offense.
Trey Kehoe came up with the lone score on a 30-yard field goal.
Prairie Valley had 82 yards of total offense.
C-G sets single-game school rushing record
EAGLE GROVE - It was an offensive slugfest here on Friday night as Clarion-Goldfield and Eagle Grove combined for over 900 yards of offense.
The Cowboys (2-0 overall) won the scoring attack, earning a 62-39 victory over the Eagles.
Clarion-Goldfield ran for a school-record 564 yards, with three guys running for over 140 yards.
Matt Odland had 163 yards on 19 carries and scores of three, five and 20 yards. Trenton Sann ran for 162 yards on 11 carries and had scores of 62 and one. Jake Haberman went for 140 yards on 16 carries and three scores. He scored on runs of 39, 10 and two yards.
Joel Haberman had a three-yard touchdown run.
Eagle Grove's (0-2) Brandon Johnson had an impressive night, running for 214 yards (23 carries) and threw for 138 yards.
Johnson ran for four touchdowns, on runs of 73, 56, 28 and 15 yards. He also threw for 138 yards.
SWEA CITY - The Bishop Garrigan football team earned a 35-6 victory over North Union on Friday.
The Golden Bears (1-1 overall) rushed for 216 yards and threw for 115.
Shawn Vaske led the ground game with 109 yards on 18 carries. He had touchdown runs of 23 and three yards.
Sophomore quarterback Reece Wadle threw for 115 yards and two scores on 5 of 12 passing. He threw a 36-yard scoring strike to Adam Hamltion and a 36-yard score to Chris Loss.
Adam Hamilton had a 25-yard interception return for a score.
On defense Jonathan Berte had 17 tackles. Brayton Loss had an interception.
Algona drubs E-LC
ALGONA - The Algona football team cruised to a 42-13 victory over Estherville-Lincoln Central on Friday night.
The Bulldogs (1-1 overall) rushed for 213 yards. Michael Erpleding had 94 yards on 13 carries and three scores. Erpleding scored from nine, five and one yards.
Weston Shaw threw a 26-yard touchdown strike to Justin Raymond. Shaw was 5 of 8 passing for 91 yards. Shaw had a one-yard TD.
Sawyer Frideres had a 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Comets win ranked clash
EMMETSBURG - Top-ranked Boyden Hull/Rock Valley won the battle of Class 1A's top-raned squads on Friday night, beating Emmetsburg 34-14.
The Comets (2-0 overall) built a 27-7 lead at halftime.
Andrew Wellick led the E-Hawks with 143 yards on 22 carries and a two-yard touchdown run.
Nick Schany caught a 14-yard touchdown strike from Jake Jackson.
Austin McCarten had nine tackles for the E-Hawks.
Wolverines fall short
WEST BEND - Sixth-ranked West Bend-Mallard mounted a furious comeback, but couldn't hold on to beat Marcus-MMC, losing 38-32.
The Wolverines (1-1 overall) trailed 32-8 at one point, but rallied to tie the contest in the fourth quarter.
MMC scored on a touchdown pass with 10 seconds left to get the victory.
Jason Zinnel scored three touchdowns on the night. Zinnel had two touchdown catches and recovered a fumble in the endzone.
Jack Fehr also caught a touchdown pass.
Reiners helps Iowa City West again
IOWA CITY - Ezra Reiners blocked a punt and scored two touchdowns to help lead No. 5 (Class 4A) Iowa City West past Cedar Rapids Washington 62-37 on Friday night.
Reiners is the son of Fort Dodge's career passing leader Randy Reiners.
Reiners had 69 yards of total offense and the two scores, as West put up 48 points in the opening half.
Last week, Reiners ran for 118 yards and a touchdown in a win over Linn-Mar.
The Trojans return to action Thursday night at Cedar Rapids Kennedy.
