ANKENY - The Fort Dodge boys golf team competed against some of the top squads in the state Thursday at the Ankeny Invitational.
The Dodgers fired a score of 346, placing them eighth in the 12-team field. West Des Moines Valley finished first with a 297 behind Jeff Swegle's meet-medalist honors.
Swegle, just a junior who earned a Class 4A individual state title last year, shot a 71.
Nate Sunken led Fort Dodge with a 79, shooting 39-40, while Alex Hage added an 80 (37-43). Eric Puls fired a 92, while both Cameron Archibald and Thomas Hartley shot 95s.
"It was windy, but I thought Nate and Alex really had great rounds," FDSH head coach Tommy Thompson said. "They are stepping up their game and playing much better."
The Dodgers return to action on Tuesday when they host Mason City at the Fort Dodge Country Club beginning at 3:30 p.m.
