CALLENDER - Clifford L. Targgart, 94, of Fort Dodge, formerly of Callender, passed away Thursday, August 23, 2012 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home, Fort Dodge. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 27, at Our Saviours Lutheran Church, Callender, with Pastor Warren Baker officiating. Burial will be at North Lawn Cemetery, Fort Dodge. Friends may call after 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the Palmer Funeral Home, Gowrie. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
Clifford is survived by his wife Florence; his children, Marilyn (Gary) Peterson of Omaha, Colleen (Gerald) Johansen of Eagle Grove, and Marlene Peterson of Shellsburg; 7 grandchildren; 16great-grandchildren; step-children, Rick (Mary) McCubbin of West Des Moines, Rollie (Patty) McCubbin of Madrid, Jim (Susie) McCubbin of Fort Dodge, Jerry (Coletta) McCubbin of Boone, Wally (Maureen) McCubbin of Liberty, MO, Harley (Karen) McCubbin of Rockwell City, Miles (Janelle) McCubbin of Callender, and Janelle Hotz of Fort Dodge; 15 step-grandchildren; and 17 step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife Verna (Kastendieck) Targgart;his parents, Lavern and Agnes (Fibiker) Targgart;and sister Dolores Chada.
Clifford Lavern Targgart was born October 14, 1917 at Callender. He graduated from Moorland High School, with the Class of 1938. In 1941, Clifford was united in marriage to Verna Kastendieck at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge. The couple established their home in Fulton Township, where Clifford farmed for 46 years, until retiring in 1984. Verna passed away in 1985. On August 19, 1989 Clifford was united in marriage to Florence (Norine) McCubbin at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Callender. The couple made their home in Callender. In 2007, Clifford and Florence moved to Kenyon Place in Fort Dodge. Clifford was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church, where he served as Treasurer for several years. He was also a member of the Lions Club, and a past 4H Leader.
