Gene Maher, 83, of Fort Dodge, died Friday August 10th, 2012 at the Stratford Care Center. Gene was born October 6th, 1928 on the family farm near Vail, IA to Gertrude Downey Maher and Clarence Maher. Following high school graduation Gene enlisted in the 82nd Airborne and served in the Korean conflict from 1951-1953. He then attended Creighton University in Omaha. In 1956 he married Donna Ryan in Perry, IA. The couple lived in Grand Island, NE from 1956-1957, Des Moines, IA from 1957-1969, Brookfield, WI from 1969-1973. Since 1973 Gene lived in Fort Dodge where he owned a beverage wholesaling company Maher Distributing Co.
He is survived by his wife Donna of Fort Dodge, son Kevin and wife Nancy and their children Michael, Sophia and William of Cedar Rapids and Amelia of Denver, CO, his son David of Minneapolis, son Scott of Chicago and daughter Joan of Excelsior, MN, brother Jim Maher of Peoria, IL and sister Dorothy Hurley of Omaha, NE and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his son Tom on September 9th, 1980, his brother Ed, sisters Madonna Ryan and Joanne Leland, his sisters in law Mary Giever and Jeri Maher, brothers in law Jim Ryan, George Leland and John Hurley.
Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 1 pm Tuesday August 14th, visitation from 12 pm-1 pm at Corpus Christi Church.
Everyone is invited to join the family for a luncheon at Corpus Christi Parish Center following the Mass.
