MYRTLE EDNA DUEKER

CEDAR RAPIDS - Myrtle Edna Dueker, 99, formerly of Fort Dodge passed away Wednesday August 8, 2012 and is now with her Lord and Savior. Myrtle was a lifelong resident of Fort Dodge and relocated to Cedar Rapids, Iowa in 2007 to be near her family.

Funeral service will be held 10:30 Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at North Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be Friday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home.

Myrtle was born December 3, 1912 in Fort Dodge, the daughter of David and Myrtle (Gordon) McLuckie. Myrtle worked at the A&P Grocery Store in her early years. She then married Alvin Dueker on December 8, 1936 in Bay City, Michigan. Myrtle and Alvin returned to Fort Dodge in 1942 and farmed north of town for twelve years. After the couple left the farm, Myrtle was employed at RodenbornManufacturing, Dodger Industries, and the Fort Dodge Community School District; retiring as the Food Service Manager in 1977.

Myrtle was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and later Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was active in various church groups, served on church committees, and visited the sick. She was a member of Ruth Circle and sewed quilts for the World Relief Group.

Myrtle approached life with a passion always wanting to learn new crafts as demonstrated by her paintings, ceramics, knitting, crocheting, upholstering, and more.

Family was very important to her. She loved to spend time with all her grandchildren and great grandchildren; thoroughly enjoying their company. She was extremely proud of them and they loved her dearly.

Myrtle is survived by her three children, Dollie Meyers of Cedar Rapids; Al and Donna Dueker of Davenport; Duane and Barbara Dueker of Homosassa, FL; ten grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; Mike and Trish Meyers and daughter, Megan of Fairfax; Tom and Lisa Meyers and son, David and daughter, Sarah of Walford; Steve and Melissa Meyers and sons, Jacob and Sam of Cedar Rapids; Craig and Julie Dueker and sons, Ryan, Josh, and Zach of West Des Moines; Bob and Tara Dueker and sons, Alex, Ethan, Owen, and Travis of North Liberty; Dave and Carrie Dueker and sons, Riley and Devin of Ankeny; Dan and Alison Dueker and son, Erik of Wentzville, MO; Michelle and Brad Johnson and daughters, Kelsey and Katrina and son, Carter of Savage, MN; Kristen and Daniel Reynolds and daughters Ashley, Jordan, and Rachel of Downers Grove, IL; and Michael Dueker of Brooklyn, NY. She is also survived by three sisters, Doris Fevold of Belview, MN; Florence Lindner of Odebolt; and Georgia Knudson of Badger and many nieces and nephews.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Alvin; granddaughter, Ann Meyers; two brothers, William and Lloyd McLuckie; and four sisters, Sylvia Donner, Hazel Babbit, Ethel Baker, and Loretta Georg.

In lieu of flowers, memorial may be left to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Fort Dodge, Iowa or to your favorite charity.
