CEDAR CREEK, Mo. - Richard Sherman Haines died at his residence in Cedar Creek, MO., on July 26, 2012. He was 65 years old.
Richard was born October 21, 1946 in Fort Dodge, Iowa to James Monroe and Helen Lavon (Root) Haines, the eighth of twelve children. While growing up in Iowa, Richard developed his lifelong devotion to family and country and his love of farming and the outdoors. He had an adventurous spirit and was never one to sit still for long.
In 1964 he enlisted in the Navy and completed his first enlistment in 1967. He returned to Fort Dodge and married Pauline Pritchard. They became the parents of three children, Troy Lee, Shannon Lynn and Richard (Rick) Sherman.
Richard re-enlisted in 1970, making the Navy a career until his retirement from NAS Glenview, Illinois as an AT Chief in 1987. He then worked in Patuxenut River, Maryland and Las Vegas, Nevada before settling in Cedar Creek in 1995.
In 1977 he married Karen Dawn Cummins in San Diego, California and they raised his three children together.
His was preceded in death by parents, James and Helen Haines, two brothers, John and Leroy Haines and a sister Elizabeth Lee.
Richard is survived by his wife Karen of Cedar Creek, his children; Troy of Chicago, Illinois, Shannon (Kevin) Goodman of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and Richard (Michelle) of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, and six grandchildren, Rianne and Megan Cavage, and Shelby, Madeline, Logan and Maya Haines. His brothers; James and William (Judy) of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Eldon (Cathy) of Loveland, Colorado and sisters; Avon (Earl) Olson and Maralyn Patterson of Fort Dodge, Evelyn Rowe of LeMars, Iowa, Betty Gutzwiller of Orland Hills Illinois and Sally (Bill) LeBaume of San Angelo, Texas.
His family will forever remember his complete devotion to his family which included not just those in his immediate family but to an extended one that included his aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces and cousins and also those friends found along the journey of his life that became as dear as family.
Funeral service will be held at the Sime Funeral Home in Soldiers Grove, WI., on Fri., Aug. 3 at 3:00 pm. Burial will be at Forrest Hill Cemetery, Soldiers Grove, WI., Visitation will be on Wed., Aug. 1, from 6 to 8 pm at the Forsyth Whelchel Funeral Chapel in Forsyth, MO.
