NORTH PORT - Ferdinand F. Mueller of North Port, FL passed away on July 9, 2012 at the age of 86. Ferdinand was born December 18, 1925 in Fenton, IA to Clara (Bierstedt) and Ferdinand F. Mueller.

Ferd as Seaman First Class, honorably defended our country during WW II on the Naval Amphibious Destroyer U.S.S. Bates in the south pacific. While in the process of carrying out an essential military operation, his ship was bombed and destroyed. Being one of the few survivors, he spent many months in a Naval Hospital recuperating from extensive injuries upon which he was awarded the purple heart and Navy Combat Metal. Upon his honorable discharge, he continued service to the U.S. government in the postal field for 30 years. During his retirement he took great pride in the care and the maintenance of his home and properties and also shared a unique interest in classic western movies.

When asked what he is most proud of in life, his answer was consistently the same: his family.
