To the editor:
I am writing this letter to give testimonial to the wonderful programs offered by Trinity Regional Medical Center to help people of all ages learn to deal with the grief associated with the loss of a loved one.
I tragically lost my 17-year-old son in a car accident on Christmas day last year. With help from Cindy Schuman and others in the group I attended, and with one-on-one sessions with Cindy I am slowly learning how to live my life without my beloved son, Michael. I can't say "I'm OK," I can say I'm closer to "OK" than I was.
Cindy and Trinity Regional Medical Center are beginning a new group for children who have suffered a loss of a loved one. This group is designed for kids from age 11 years to 14 years. It will begin on July 11 and continue for a total of three sessions on July 18 and 25. It will be held in the conference room located on 4 West at the hospital. There is no charge for this program thanks to Trinity Regional Medical Center's generosity and caring for the community. Call 574-6427 for registration or email Cindy at firstname.lastname@example.org. A parent or legal guardian must sign a permission slip form prior to starting the group. Registration must be confirmed by July 9.
If you know of an adolescent who has lost a loved one please enroll them in the program. I know from my personal experience how helpful the group experience and Cindy's empathy and compassion can help ease the suffering. And you may also meet Murphy the therapy dog. He's great.
