IOWA FALLS - The fourth-ranked (Class 2A) St. Edmond baseball team was unable to find any rhythm Tuesday night, falling to Iowa Falls-Alden in their regular season finale, 3-2.
The Gaels (21-8 overall, 12-5 in North Central Conference) were led by David Flattery, who had three hits and struck out five batters in two innings of relief work.
Iowa Falls-Alden plated the eventual game-winning run on a solo home run by Hunter Heitland with two outs in the fourth.
"Christian Peterson did a nice job of keeping his pitches low," SEHS head coach Joe Shanks said. "Their defense played flawless, and really kept us from taking advantage of the runners we did get on base."
Hank Crimmins added a double for St. Edmond in the loss, while Neil Flattery recorded three strikeouts in pitching the first four innings.
The Gaels will play either Eagle Grove or South Central Calhoun in the opening round of postseason play next Tuesday at Rogers Park. First-pitch is set for 7 p.m.
