Infrastructure will once again be a major topic of discussion for the Fort Dodge City Council when it meets Monday.

In addition to reviewing various projects and selecting some engineering firms, the council is expected to consider renaming part of Fifth Street Northwest after the family of Councilman Mark Taylor.

The council meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the Municipal Building, 819 First Ave. S., with a workshop on projects on Fourth Street Northwest and 10th Avenue North.

The regular business meeting will start at 6 p.m. in the Municipal Building.

During that session, the council is scheduled to award a roughly $41,000 contract to MEC Construction Services Co. of Fort Dodge for electrical work at the John W. pray Water Facility on Phinney Park Drive.

The elected officials are also expected to direct the city staff to begin negotiating with Snyder & Associates of Ankeny and McClure Engineering Co. of Fort Dodge to prepare the plans for two projects. Snyder & Associates has been identified as the best qualified firm to handle storm sewer work on the city's east side, while McClure Engineering Co. has been picked to handle the reconstruction of First Avenue North.

Council members are expected to act on the second reading of a measure that would allow tax increment financing to be used to pay for relocating the northernmost portion of the Fort Dodge Nature Trail as part of the expansion of BHJ USA Inc.

The possibility of renaming Fifth Street Northwest between Hawkeye Avenue and its dead end to the south after the Taylor family will also be considered. In a letter to the council, Larry and Mark Taylor requested that the street be renamed Taylor Place.

''We, the undersigned, legal owners of all properties on Fifth Street Northwest from Hawkeye Avenue south to the dead-end request the renaming of said section for street in the city of Fort Dodge, County of Webster, state of Iowa,'' the Taylors wrote. ''New name of said section of street: Taylor Place.''

A call seeking comment from Mark Taylor was not returned Friday.

Generally, the renaming of the street would have to be approved by the council three times to go into effect. However, the council has the option of skipping the second and third votes and making the change effective with one vote.

Following the regular business meeting, the council will have four workshop discussions. One will be about the possibility of a housing urban renewal area to support the construction of duplexes near A Street and U.S. Highway 169.

The Hydroelectric Dam will be the subject of another workshop.

A third workshop will focus on curbside recycling.

Animal control policy will be the subject of a fourth workshop.
